Studies on the Effect of Hypoxia and Hypercapnia on Cardiopulmonary Function

Abstract
|
|
|
An experimental study on changes in cardiopulmonary function during sodium thiopental anesthesia was obtained.
1) The minute ventilation, oxygen uptake, and carbon dioxide elimination were gradually increased and the respiatory quotient was constant during the observation.
2) The grogressive increment of arterial oxygen saturation and the gradual fall of arterial carbon dioxide tension were noted.
3) The cardiac output, stroke volume, femoral arterial mean pressure, and femoral venous pressure were gradually reduced.
4) The total peripheral resistance was progressively increased, whereas the total pulmonary resistance decreased.
5) The effects of anesthesia on pulmonary function were recovered from in a ralatively short period but the recovery of the effects of anesthesia on hemonary function.
6) No direct relationship was found between pulmonary function and hemodynamics.
